As we are finally into the time of year in Houston where cold temperatures do come, and then get replaced by beautiful 70 degree days, this fluxuation can play havoc on our instruments and bows. Here are a couple of simple tips to help mitigate this:
1. When not playing your instrument, keep it in your case. If a cold front comes in, and your house heater kicks in, it is going to dry out the air in your house quickly, and this can cause pegs to slip and seams to open.
2. Make sure and loosen your bow when you are done playing. Like in the above situation, when the air gets drier, horse hair will shrink, and could potentially make your bow dangerously tight!
Happy New Year and safe stay!!
