This is the 2nd workshop instrument Oregon cello maker, Kile Hill, has collaborated with us on. The first did not last long in our inventory, and I suspect the same will be for this lovely cello!
Based on a Guarneri pattern, the cello has a European Spruce top, paired with a Poplar sides and back. Tonally, this cello has a powerful and even tone across the strings, rich, as you might expect with softer Poplar woods used. Physically, it is very easy to maneuaver around, as it is not a large cello. The varnish is a lighter brown over a golden undercoat and has been tastefully antiqued by the luthier.
We completed the setup in the shop, utilizing Rondo Strings by Thomastik on the A, D and G and a heavy gauge Spirocore Tungsten C string.
